Ubuntu 12.04.05 ログイン時に表示される「Your current Hardware Enablement Stack (HWE) is no longer supported since 2014-08-07.」
Ubuntu 12.04.05 のログイン時に表示される、以下のメッセージについて調べてみた。
Your current Hardware Enablement Stack (HWE) is no longer supported since 2014-08-07. Security updates for critical parts (kernel and graphics stack) of your system are no longer available. For more information, please see: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/1204_HWE_EOL To upgrade to a supported (or longer supported) configuration: * Upgrade from Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS by running: sudo do-release-upgrade OR * Install a newer HWE version by running: sudo apt-get install and reboot your system.
/etc/motd のアップデートスクリプト内で hwe-support-status コマンドが出力している。
リンク先の説明を読んでみると、「12.04.5 HWE (Trusty kernel/graphics)」をインストールするか、14.04にアップデートするように書かれていた。
14.04へのアップデートはそのうちやるが、今はアップデートしない方法で対処することにした。
12.04.5 HWEのインストールについて、説明は以下の一文だけしか記述されていない。
The hwe-support-status tool will tell you what you need to do.
ツールの出力は先にあげている通りで、「sudo apt-get install」しか記述されていない。
hwe関連のパッケージをインストールするらしいが、パッケージ名が分からないので、検索してみた。

名前から推測すると linux-hwe-generic と linux-image-hwe-generic が対象のパッケージらしいので、linux-hwe-genericをインストールした。（linux-image-hwe-generic は依存関係で自動インストール）
$ sudo aptitude install linux-hwe-generic
再起動後のログインメッセージは以下のように変わった。
Your Hardware Enablement Stack (HWE) is supported until 4月 2017.
